Most of our guests never want to leave the property — and we get it. But when you do head out, here's what's worth your time. Everything below is within a 30-minute drive, with a few day trips worth a full morning.

On the Water

You're already on the Mon. Here's how to make the most of it.

  • Smitty's Marina & Lock 4 Bar and Grill — Full-service marina with a covered riverfront deck. The only place in the valley where you can dock your boat and eat dinner. 10 min. smittysmarina.com
  • Beach Club Marina (New Eagle) — The largest marina on the Mon — 300 slips, tiki bar, double launch ramp. 15 min. beachclubmarina.com
  • Allenport Marina — A classic Mon Valley riverside hangout — tiki bar, live music, full ramp. 12 min.
  • Roscoe Public Boat Launch — The PA Fish & Boat Commission's free ramp right in town, at the foot of Duvall Street. 2 min.
  • Fishing the Mon — Channel and flathead catfish, smallmouth bass, walleye, sauger, and bluegill. Fish straight off the dock or trailer in elsewhere. PA fishing license required.
  • Kayaking & Paddleboarding — Between Lock 4 and Lock 3, the Mon runs flat with a mild current. Launch directly from the dock.

Hiking & Parks
From creek gorges to covered bridges — all under 30 minutes.

  • Mingo Creek County Park — 2,600 acres, 12+ miles of trails, 1800s covered bridges, an observatory, fishing creeks. One of the best parks in the region. 20 min.
  • Cedar Creek Park (Belle Vernon) — A family-friendly 1.5-mile gorge trail between two suspension bridges, plus the trailhead for the Great Allegheny Passage rail-trail. 12 min.
  • Great Allegheny Passage (GAP Trail) — 150 miles of flat, paved rail-trail from Pittsburgh to Cumberland, MD. Hop on at Cedar Creek for an out-and-back bike ride or a long walk. 12 min to trailhead. gaptrail.org
  • Cross Creek County Park (Avella) — A quiet 4.5 km loop trail around a 63-acre fishing lake. Off the tourist trail. 30 min.
  • Hillman State Park — Undeveloped, lightly trafficked, genuinely wild. For when you want to feel like you've actually gotten away. 30 min.

When the weather doesn't cooperate.


  • Hollywood Casino at The Meadows (Washington) — Full casino, live harness racing, sportsbook, multiple restaurants. 25 min.
  • Tanger Outlets Pittsburgh + Planet Bounce — 80+ outlet stores plus a large inflatable play center inside the complex — a parent lifesaver. 25 min.
  • Pennsylvania Trolley Museum (Washington) — Ride restored streetcars on a 4-mile scenic loop. Kids love it. 25 min. patrolley.org
  • 5th Street Escape Room (Charleroi) — Locally run, highly rated, steps from River House Cafe — pair it with dinner. 10 min.
  • Liberty Pole Spirits (Washington) — Craft distillery with a tasting room, right by The Meadows. 25 min.

Day Trips

Worth half a day each. All within an hour.

  • Pittsburgh — 30 minutes away. North Shore trail, Strip District food markets, the Andy Warhol Museum, the Duquesne Incline at sunset. Park once and walk. 30 min. visitpittsburgh.com
  • Flight 93 National Memorial (Stoystown) — The national memorial honoring the 40 passengers and crew of United Flight 93 on September 11, 2001. The visitor center, Memorial Plaza, and Tower of Voices are deeply moving and free to visit. Allow 2–3 hours on site. Open daily 9 AM–5 PM, closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.   • Ohiopyle State Park — Whitewater rafting on the Youghiogheny, waterfalls, 80+ miles of trails. Outfitters run guided trips May–October. 50 min.
  • Heinz History Center (Pittsburgh) — Six floors on western PA history — steel, sports, Heinz 57. One of the best regional museums in the country. 35 min.heinzhistorycenter.org
  • Nemacolin (Farmington) — Luxury resort with a casino, spa, restaurants, golf. Day passes available. The splurge option. 55 min. nemacolin.com

  • Ripepi Winery & Vineyard (Monongahela) — A small family vineyard with estate wines and monthly happy hours with live music. 20 min. ripepiwine.com
  • Dead Head Winery (Monongahela) — A Grateful Dead-themed boutique winery in downtown Monongahela. Yes, really. 20 min. deadheadwinery.com
  • Nemacolin Castle (Brownsville) — A real 19th-century castle. Brownsville built over 3,000 steamboats in the 1800s, including the first one to make a return trip to New Orleans. Ghost tours in the fall. 30 min. nemacolincastle.net
  • Rivers of Steel Mon River Boat Tour — Board the Explorer for a 3-hour narrated tour up the Mon from Pittsburgh's North Shore. Spring and fall only. 30 min to dock.
  • Perry Como Statue (Canonsburg) — A life-size bronze of the crooner — born in Canonsburg in 1912 — that plays his music when you push a button. Pure Americana. 20 min.
  • Noble J. Dick Aquatorium (Monongahela) — A free public aquarium in downtown Mon City showing native river fish. Almost completely unknown to outsiders. 20 min.
